My mother was never happy in the care facility. Years later, looking back, I realised that she had never really been happy anywhere after the day my father died and she had to pack up and leave their flat. She had only ever been happy when she and my father were together.

It was not an easy decision to put my mother at a care facility for the aged, and she always blamed Daniel for ‘kicking her out of my home’. Partly that was true. My mother herself made the whole family, including Daniel, uncomfortable.
